Leisure
Leisure is an important aspect
of people’s lives.
Leisure can be defined,
as time not spent working or meeting the necessaries
of life.
For some people, leisure is
an extension of their work activities. Leisure activities
are related to job satisfaction and involvement in
work. Work also provides the financial means with
which to participate in leisure.
Leisure is an important
way of reducing stress!
Many people today are workaholics or verging on becoming
a workaholic. Spending long hours working, even when
enjoying what they are doing, is not a balanced lifestyle.
Eventually through ill health they are forced to slow
down or change attitudes. Recognising that Leisure
is very important for rejuvenating the mind and body.
The evolution of leisure
Leisure time in the 21st Century
has evolved due to various factors over the last 50
years. Key factors include: declining control of the
church, the multicultural dimension of western society,
increased geographical mobility, changing work patterns
and the importance of the weekend.
